Description
Hi! Our names are Fernando and Alexian, we're a couple in our 20s and we just opened our hostel in the historic center of Guadalajara, Jalisco! Fernando is a Guadalajara native with all the local knowledge and Alexian is originally from California, bringing a love for travel and art – we also moved here with our pup Josie! We spent the last several months renovating one of Guadalajara's patrimonial houses and filling it with local art. Our vision is to not only celebrate the super creative culture of this city, but to also bring art and culture into the hostel. We plan to host events with local artists, as well as set up a visiting artist program.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Art ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsCreating/ Cooking family mealsHelp around the houseHospitality/TourismCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We want the hostel to be an exchange environment that both locals and travelers can benefit from. Volunteers would be at the center of the action, connecting with guests from all over the world, as well as developing relationships with the local artists and creatives hosting workshops. Volunteers are also welcome to start their own projects (e.g. leading tours, organizing events, offering fitness classes, etc.) inside or outside of the hostel. Guadalajara is so rich with culture, there's always something new to experience or explore.
Help
We're new at this and we need help running the hostel! We ask for 24 hours per week (split between 4 - 5 days) overseeing the front desk, day-to-day cleaning/tidying, planning activities, fostering a nice vibe within the house, helping guests with advice, directions, and all the other random things that pop up. We're looking for self-motivated individuals with any hostel or hospitality experience, who are people-oriented, have a love for the art, who are reliable, respectful, and who might even like to add their own touch to the hostel through passion projects. We're totally open to new ideas! Also, we're specifically seeking individuals who are conversational/fluent in Spanish, but English is a plus!

Volunteers have their own separate dorm. The room is spacious with high ceilings. The beds are individual-sized steel bunk beds, all beds have privacy curtains, memory foam mattresses, sheets, a pillow, a hand-woven blanket, and large lockers underneath. Bathrooms are shared – each bathroom features a spacious tiled shower, toilet, sink, mirror, and skylight – and are cleaned daily. We have a 24-hour security system, individual door codes to get in, and we prioritize safety, cleanliness, and respect.
What else ...
Volunteers are welcome to pursue other jobs, studies, and activities outside of their responsibilities at the hostel. Guadalajara is the second biggest city in Mexico and offers a wide range of amenities: public transportation, public events, a university, museums, street markets, music festivals, hiking, trendy cafes and restaurants, direct travel to major cities, the list goes on...
