Description
Hi, I'm Asa. I'm looking for intrepid adventurers who are also enthusiastic about studying and discussing the Christian Holy Bible! In addition, my house is a fixer upper built in 1957 and I could use some help with yard work, painting, easy cleaning, and other simple tasks. A little bit about me: I'm 42 and I currently work at home doing electronics engineering work and coding software.
***ABOUT THE BIBLE STUDY***
To make sure its understood, I am not a pastor, minister, priest, or theologian, and there are many parts of the Bible I haven't read yet. I am just a fellow Christian looking to study and discuss the Bible. I am looking for people who are also interested and enthusiastic to discuss the Bible. If that sounds exciting and interesting to you then please let me know! Fair warning: I am very conservative and possibly even Calvinist!

[Things in common to all locations]
Stars: All locations are in places far from artificial light and should have excellent (sometimes world-class) views of the stars.
Remoteness: Most locations are extremely remote from civilization. Although locations tend to be named and appear on maps (because they have Jeep roads), its still unlikely to encounter other campers.
Campgrounds: All locations are wilderness (also known as "dispersed") camping, with no facilities or services of any kind! So actually they aren't "campgrounds"!
Showers: Although the locations are not campgrounds and have no services, I do bring a hot-water shower system (with enclosed stall, pressurized water, and gas-powered water heat). This allows for hot water showers to be taken every night, even in the most remote locations, even when its freezing outside, comfortably.
Toilets: None! So just a shovel and toilet paper!
Food: Anything from MRE's (military meals in pouches) to cooking raw steaks and vegetables over the open fire. Good food is a high priority! Waking up in the wilderness, to a chilly, incredible view, and enjoying breakfast and coffee is one of my favorite parts of camping. (Maybe my most favorite actually!)
Campfires: I make it a priority to find locations where campfires are legal and enjoyable. Sometimes locations do not allow campfires because of wildfire dangers. However, it seems I can always find a place to go where it will be allowed.
Hiking and exploring: Locations are remote and in the wilderness so there is plenty of opporuntity for wandering about and exploring.
Trasportation: The Jeep is an enclosed SUV, and very quiet and comfortable for long trips. Its also quite capable off-road. Music and snacks are definitely a part of the trip, and there is almost always a great view while travelling from the house to the camping spot.
[Grand Canyon Location #1, North Rim, 8000ft(2438m)]
I have not yet gone to this location and its very high on my list. Its right on the north rim (cliff) of the Grand Canyon, in Kaibab Forest, at 8000ft (2438m). The views should be dramatic with plenty of opportunity for random wandering into the forest and along the cliff. Because of this locations high altitude, the forest should be greener and grassier than lower elevations. However it might also be very cold and snow might block the road and make it impossible to get to. (This area is called Kaibab Forest and is near Hwy 67)
[Grand Canyon Location #2, North Rim 6000ft(1828m)]
This location is also on the cliff of north rim of the Grand Canyon. I have been here twice and there should be pictures in the listing of this location. It is an extremely remote location, about 80 miles through wilderness to the nearest paved road. (This area is called Parashant Monument)
[Sierra Nevada Forest]
Deep and tall forest, lakes, rivers, meadows, fishing and hunting! The Sierra Nevada moutain range is enormous so there are many possible places to go. I have a couple I have been to that would be great to go back to. Daytime weather can be mild in winter however night can be very cold, and roads can be closed during winter because of snow. However, I am definitely open to looking into going here.
[Death Valley (high elevation location)]
I have researched a special location in Death Valley, which is unusual because its very high up (6500 ft/1981m), on the edge of a cliff that you can walk along. There should be an amazing view. This location is called "middle park". I have not gone here yet.
[Death Valley (valley floor)]
This location is actually just south of Death Valley. Its called "Avawatz Mountain" and is high-up enough to have an amazing view (200 degrees I would say) of the desert. There are also Ibex Sand Dunes nearby which could be hiked to.
[OTHER PLACES!]
I am open to planning adventures to other places, however I am not interested in sightseeing-only trips with lots of freeway driving from place to place, or camping trips in places where there are large crowds or places that are not in wilderness (although maybe I can be convinced if its a very special idea for some reason).

While you are staying here you will enjoy:

-I'm a pretty good cook and great food is important to me so there will be fabulous food as well!
TRIP COSTS: As far as trip costs, I ask that we split the cost of food, gas, and lodging/camping/park fees. But thats only on trips, at home I pay for all the food.
Various mini adventures while at the house can include:
-Wine tasting in Temecula wine country near my house
-Cooking experiments especially the following: Shrimp Bisque, Traditional French
-Garage sailing and going to thrift stores. I've done this with several workawayers and we always end up finding cool stuff at great prices.
-Really, anything we want to do within a couple hours drive is possible.
***ABOUT THE WORK***
Generally easy house chores, like raking leaves, cleaning the pool, painting, cleaning the floors, and so forth. I will show you how to do the tasks and you can count on plenty of snacks and a stereo to play music on to make things more fun.
***AIRPORT PICKUP/DROPOFF***
Airport Pickup/Dropoff: Its possible for me to pick you up and drop you back off at southern California airports, just pay for gas! Its important to plan pickup/dropoff times to avoid traffic (especially to LAX) if possible, but I can help you plan this.

Accommodation
My house is 3 bed 2 bath. The workawayer will get their own bedroom with twin mattress and comfy clean pillows and sheets. The house has a washer and dryer for laundry. There is a large pool in the backyard which is usable Apr to Oct (sometimes Nov!). You will have access to the entire house and its a very relaxing place to read, recuperate, relax, cook, and prepare for adventures!
What else ...
I would be happy to go on excursions with you in either of the two vehicles I have. One is a 4x4 Jeep fully outfitted for off roading to remote destinations like Death Valley or the Grand Canyon. The other is a newer Corvette which is great for visiting the urban centers like Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Pacific Ocean beaches, all of which are about 1.5 hours away from my house.
