Description
I am a retired hotel/restaurant manager and former owner of a tour company. After retirement, I opted to remain in Phan Thiet, Vietnam rather than return to my previous home in San Francisco. I am a gay man who has never been married, but I 'adopted' a Vietnamese family twenty years ago and then built a home on a hectare of land in Phan Thiet, where six of us currently live.
Since retirement in 2016, I have been helping the owner of the resort I had previously managed as his on-site representative. In that capacity, I started to invite Workaway volunteers to assist at his newly purchased resort. But when the pandemic started, we permanently closed the resort. After foreign tourism had returned to Vietnam, I changed the Workaway volunteer program to the resort which I had managed before retiring. A large majority of our foreign guests are from Europe, so, we felt that workaway volunteers could help the staff members improve their English, German and French, plus help them to bridge the divide between Vietnamese and foreign cultures.
We are looking for volunteers willing to stay a minimum of three months to help with guest relations throughout the resort, IT related issues, maintenance, plus language training for staff members, as well as to assist with Yoga and Tai Chi classes for guests.
Although our calendar shows that we have sufficient volunteers until the middle of next year, we will make an exception for native German speakers. The majority of our guests this winter are German, many of whom come from the portion of the country that was previously East Germany and they never learned to speak English.Types of help and learning opportunities

They would be staying at a beautiful large four-star garden resort on a wide sandy beach. The resort is within two kilometers of the market in the center of Mui Ne, a very traditional Vietnamese fishing community with over 10,000 residents. They can learn from the local staff and the local people about Vietnamese culture and they can share aspects of their cultures with these people. At the same time, they can participate in many of the same activities that tourists come to Mui Ne, Phan Thiet to experience.
Help
Volunteers to help the guest relations staff to communicate with guests throughout the resort, plus help with IT operational issues, yoga, tai chi instruction and regular maintenance.
