    Description

We would like to invite people to help us with our land. It is located near Pucon, in the mountains and native old growth forests of southern Chile . Spectacular views of Caburgua Lake and Villarrica Volcano, within walking distance to Huerquehue National Park, and a 30-minute drive from Pucon. Our place is a perfect retreat to enjoy the distinct nature of the region of Araucanía Chile.

It consists of a couple of Cabins and nature trails with sitting areas and lookouts. The house, cabañas, and other structures are constructed in harmony with their natural surroundings. We are not a commercial operation, but we do rent one of the cabin occasionally to help pay the some of maintenance cost of the place

Wenu Mapu is an excellent place to experience the chilean country side, get to see the pristine endemic Chilean forest and birds. Its a good place to learn new skills regarding farm jobs or perfections and share what you already know. We speak German, English and Spanish. Always willing to help you to improve your Spanish if you want.

We welcome people that share the interest to live healthy and conscious lives, wanting to learn and share their knowledge with us and this project. Living sustainably and off the land is wonderful, fulfilling and inspiring, but also a good amount of work. Those who have lived outside the cities and its comforts know that to be self-reliant in a sustainable place is not always easy, and one must be resourceful and willing to work and fix whatever comes your way at any time.

We want to keep this place well taken care of for everyone that visits to enjoy it and its beauty. Help us take care of this special forest, its trees, birds and all the amazing life that happens up here.

There is always general repairs to be made in the land and never ending maintenance.
We need volunteers to help us with staking fire wood, painting, staining wood, maintaining trails and campsites, planting trees, fixing roads, maintaining drinking water systems, repairing fences and outdoor furniture, painting, wild fire prevention work, cleaning, etc.

We do not have animals or pets. We have a small greenhouse that does not require too much work but any help with it or permaculture projects are always welcome.

We can host couples or people in groups of two or three, we prefer travelers with skills and knowledge in construction, carpentry, wood working, water systems, plumbing, framing, farming, permaculture skills or some kind of experience in farm work. Please let us know in what way you could help.

We try to make the volunteers feel comfortable and well taken care, but we also expect people to be motivated to help. We really appreciate independent and self sufficient travelers. Five hours of work, 5 days a week should be enough, as long as you have good work ethics. We would like people to stay for a minimum of 1 week which could be extended to 2 weeks if there is work to be done and we feel comfortable with each other.

You can visit the surrounding area in your free time. We are very close to hot springs and a national park. I may be able to give you a car ride to the entrance of the park so you can go explore Huerquehue and the mountain lakes.

Hosting work away volunteers is mainly something i am interested in, my parent like to share too, but because i host people frequently over the summer Is really important for me to make sure that my parents don't loose their sense of privacy and personal space in and around their cabin. please be aware of that.

-We ask volunteers to buy the food for the week in Pucon, we will pay you back once you get here. We have a budget of almost $8 US dollars a day, which in Chile should be enough to buy the ingredients for a simple but healthy balance diet. We may be able to share veggies from the greenhouse depending on when you come and what is available.

-If you are on quest to explore world ethnic cousine or have a special diet which require expensive ingredient you will have to pay the difference in price, but please make sure you bring everything you need because there are no shops or store up the mountain.

-Unless it rains a lot while you are here, if you come in January or february there is a no fires allowed policy. Thank you!

-If you would like to stay with us, please let us know what your skills are; including skills not listed but you think may be helpful. Please don’t write us a generic letter and do take the time to read our profile and calendar before sending us a request.

i would really like to be able to talk briefly on Skype or whats up if possible, so we can meet over the phone and make sure its a good fit for both of us.

What do I need to bring as a volunteer?

    -Warm clothes for the night.

    -Good shoes

    -Willingness to work and share

    -headlamp or flashlight

    What else ...

We live 25 miles from town (Pucon), you can get their by bus. I can pick you up from the bus stop when you arrive to Wenu mapu.

    Huerquehue National Park.

5 kilometers (3 miles) drive from Wenu Mapu lies the border of Huerquehue national park. There you will encounter a wild paradise of dense forests, mountains, and icy streams that have cut deep canyons over countless years. It has a very abrupt geography with hills reaching 2,000 meters in height and deep ravines, originating in the glacial era. Inside the park are 17 lagoons and small pristine lakes, numerous waterfalls and views of nearby snow-capped volcanoes and the Lakes Region. It is a perfect place to take a day hike or spend several days camping in the backcountry. The park is a reserve for the Araucaria tree (Monkey Puzzle tree) and also has abundant Nothofagus forests. You can also see a wide range of birds, especially ducks, and with luck and patience you’ll be able to see the woodpecker.
